The winter view of Broken Top and Sisters
OK, where should I start? Maybe with the fact that I wanted image like the one below already two years ago. But that winter I had same other location planed out (mainly Crater Lake) and then when I got time to climb Tumalo Mountain ( that's the spot where I was shooting from), the weather simply didn't cooperate.
Last winter I had have chance to try at least once, but the light wasn't there, flat sky and no colors at all . You know when the weather man say something, but something completely different happen... well, at least I did scout the area and got some ideas where specificaly to shoot from...
Finaly this winter I was lucky.
I don't know about you, but I love Broken Top and Sisters from this angle. If you willing to kick your butt out of the bed at 2am, drive for three and a half hours, hike one, but steep mile in snow, then if you're lucky, you'll see scene like this. As I said earlier, this was my second attempt and I was pleasantly surprised how everything was working well this time. Except that fact, that I almost died while hiking this steep snowy hill. :-D
It depends how you look at it. I see it as a kind of lifestyle and with this mindset, I realize that landscape photography is a long run. Sometimes things work well, sometimes not. But it's a part of the game to give a try and not be sure about the result. Once I accepted that, I'm enjoying this game even more. And finally, when I actually accomplish my goal, then I'm happy like a little child... :-)
